My Story
Effective Virtual Assistance, LLC officially opened for business in the spring of 2008 and every day since has been part of an exciting personal journey that I hope continues for many years. My office is based in Northern Virginia, and I serve clients across North America.
I am a mom to two boys and a fun loving Chesapeake Bay Retriever. I'm married to a police officer. My boys amaze me on a daily basis. One is a gifted athlete and straight A student. The other is a natural comedian who loves to dance and sing. Being married to a police officer, I'll admit, can have more downsides than upsides. However, there is no denying how much I admire him for his courage to do what he does every day, for his love of his job and for his ability to be exceptionally good at it. Quick story...there have been times that he has brought home an unmarked patrol car because he is "on call". Well, when he's on call we have to take two cars everywhere we go (no, not very gas efficient but necessary), and I always let him lead. I have to say, the looks I get when I'm practically tailgating an unmarked police car are priceless!
I spent ten years in the corporate world and the last six were with a large company that struggled through a merger and multiple rounds of layoffs. Suddenly I found myself unemployed, a bit worried, but definitely motivated to start the next chapter!
I had been very fortunate that during the last three years with that company I had been allowed to work from my home office (saved the company money and me lots of time avoiding traffic in an area that was recently sited as worse than NY and CA). Being married to a police officer with a crazy schedule meant my first priority was to look for a career that allowed me the flexibility of working from home so I could always be there for my kiddos.
During my research for work at home opportunities, I came across the intriguing role of the Virtual Business Assistant. I saw HUGE potential and had a good feeling that virtual assistants were the wave of the future. With the technology we have these days, many office support and marketing tasks can be handled by a virtual admin.
So that was it! I jumped right into researching and formulating my business plan. It was surprisingly easy! I clocked many a late night setting up my business, building my website and getting ready to accept my first client - both operationally and mentally!
I purposely included the word "effective" in the name of my business because I wanted Effective Virtual Assistance to be known for service that emulates the definition of "effective" which, simply defined, means“producing a decided, decisive or desired effect” (Merriam Webster). With the knowledge and skills necessary to get the job done, a results driven attitude, strong problem solving abilities, attention to detail, follow through and integrity as core elements I bring to my business, Effective Virtual Assistance is ready
to be your small business support solution!
